Did Microsoft install some new updates on Tuesday, May 29th?!?
Today is Wednesday, May 30th.
Ever since I got up this morning, my WinTV v7, with a Hauppauge USB Live 2, on Windows 7, has been crashing like crazy.
And it doesn't even generate any Crash Codes - the WinTV screen just suddenly goes black, and stays black.
I've been fiddling with everything all morning [rebooting, changing settings, jiggling cables, etc], but nothing works.
Woops - it just did it again, while I was typing - the screen just went black, and everything within the program just quit.
Anyway, I'm wondering if maybe Microsoft downloaded some security updates yesterday [Tuesday, May 29th], which might have altered some DLLs, thereby "breaking" WinTV v7?
Thanks!

Microsoft release their security patches on the second Tuesday in each month. In Win 7 you can see which packages have been installed and when by going to Control Panel | System and Security | Windows Update and clicking "View update history". Vista similarly, XP by either looking at the WIndows Update log or visiting the Microsoft/Windows Update site and looking at your history there.
Have you checked your aerial connection, could the lead have become damaged?

Okay, from yesterday, I have:
Code:
Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.127.930.0)
Installation date: 5/29/2012
I wonder if that is what it was?
By the way, I just took the opportunity to upgrade Win TV 7, from the old v2.5 [2012-02-06] to the new v2.5c [2012-04-17].
We'll see whether the upgrade fixes the problem [whatever it was] - but so far the upgrade hasn't crashed yet - KNOCK ON WOOD!!!

Here is the change log for Definition 1.127.930.0:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/Definitions/WhatsNew.aspx?Version=1.127.930.0
Well, so far v2.5c hasn't crashed yet - it's been up for a while now - crossing my fingers and knocking on wood.
Anyway, if someone from Hauppauge Tech Support has a lot of time on their hands [and access to a really nice lab], then they might try to see whether they can recreate this bug, namely Win TV 7 v2.5 [2012-02-06] being incompatible with Windows Defender Definition 1.127.930.0.

For the record, v2.5c [2012-04-17] has been up and running all day.
So whatever it was seems to have been a problem with v2.5 [2012-02-06].

Just wanted to brag on v2.5c a little more - it's been running like a champ since I installed it.
The guys on the development team at Hauppauge did a really good job in cleaning up a bunch of annoying little bugs which had been in v2.5; by contrast, v2.5c is a noticeable improvement [at least on my platform].
Congrats & keep up the good work!
