Which cables/extras needed to record High Def Gaming on Xbox360 with HD PVR?
Hi,
My son bought an HD PVR model 1228 (not gaming edition) from Amazon recently and can only get Standard Def to work with with his xbox360. Could someone tell me please what cables or extra's he needs to connect his xbox360 (slim model) to the the TV please? Should he have bought the gaming edition which has all the correct cables etc?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Gavin

Gavin where are you based? I have one spare if you want to buy it?
I'm in the UK.

We already have this cable but could only get Standard Def to work not HD. We have the new model xbox and connect to TV using HDMI cable.

Can you describe the exact wiring you are using? You said you are using standard def but are now using HDMI and you have the component cables also?
Using both at the same time will not work (I tried).

There's 2 ways of doing it. Either you stick with the component cable from the xbox to the pvr OR if you want to play with HDMI coming from the xbox you will have to buy 3 things outlined below.
HDMI Splitter

HDMI to Component Converter
http://www.amazon.com/YPbPr-Componen...9518027&sr=8-8
Xbox A/V Optical Slim Adapter - you need this as you will need to take the left/right audio from the xbox to use with the PVR as the audio channel from the converter doesn't output in very high volume.

Re: Which cables/extras needed to record High Def Gaming on Xbox360 with HD PVR?
Hi, jusy needed to clarify something. My sons xbox is 3 years old and has the standard Xbox plug out and HDMI. He used to connect with HDMI, but as Falcon says, this will need some converters etc to work. Instead, if you look at the original grey Xbox video lead, it comes with component HD (Red, Blue, Green) plugs and composite SD (Yellow, Red, White) plugs, all out of the lead. You select between HD and SD with a swith on the master plug that fits in teh back of the xbox. You then have to connect to the TV using the component leads. If your TV does not have component in, then you need a Component to HDMI converter. I use a NEET one I got off amazon for £34.00.

Just to add that once you have connected the xbox to HD PVR using the green, blu and red wire of the original xbox lead, you also need to change the Xbox TV resolution under the xbox menu.

Also there is sometimes a switch on the cable that switches from HD to SD.
I have mine set up as above with the extra convertors as the difference between component and hdmi is easily noticable for me.
