Using HD PVR for Console gaming on Laptop screen?
Hey guys,
I'm looking to buy a device that will help me play my PS3 directly on my laptop monitor, in good quality.
From what I can understand, these things are called as capture cards. Isn't what you use to record the gameplay etc also a capture card? i.e. the Hauppuage HD PVR?
Every single video that I can see on Hauppuage's tutorials or setups always have a TV included in the setup to capture from. I'm looking to get a device that will use my laptop screen as a gaming display. Since you guys capture, I'm assuming using the HD PVR, maybe you could tell me if such a connection is possible??
If the Hauppuage does this, then that's awesome, as I will have the bonus of recording live gameplay as well.
If it's not the Hauppauge that does it, please guide on what I should be getting for my needs?
Any help much appreciated!

Re: Using HD PVR for Console gaming on Laptop screen?
Unfortunately you're unlikely to get what you're hopping for.
Capture devices typically add up to a second or two of delay when they pull video into the PC - which is fine when all your want to do is record or stream it, but you'd still be connected to a TV to watch the game play. If you were trying to play based on what you see on the PC or laptop monitor, your reaction time would suck, and you'd quickly give up on that approach.
You can get some fairly minimal delay with old-school standard definition analog devices (and WinTV7 set to 'game mode'), but there isn't anything you'd be able to do about the delay with high definition encoder device like the HDPVR.

Thanks a lot for your reply admin, but I is sad :'(
I just want to be able to game on my lappy monitor since I keep moving around and don't have the convenience of carrying around a TV/Monitor.
There is a device called as the Black shuttle as well, would you have any clue about that ?
And any other examples of devices like WinTV7 that could help me do what I want to?
Thanks for the help again! I'm not a complete n00b, but never really had the opportunity or the reason to find out about capture cards and stuff...

Capture devices typically add up to a second or two of delay when they pull video into the PC, your not going to find a laptop only solution,
sorry
