Problem editing HD PVR video files
Hello,
I am unable to edit files recorded with the device (no matter wheter I record in m2ts, ts and what bitrate I use). So far I've tried following editors: Sony Vegas Pro 10, AVS Video Editor and Cyberlink Power Director 8. They all crash when I import the recorded footage, or at least when I try to edit it. Is this normal behaviour because I kinda presumed I am also able to edit the captured material?
My specs are:
E8400 3Ghz, 4GB DDR3, Win 7 64bit, GTS 250 1gb
I can edit 720p material captured with other codecs and programs such as Fraps for example. So I'm guessing my specs are ok to handle HD PVR footage as well. I mean the bitrate is miserable 13,5mbps, Fraps does probably at least 50Mbps and it can be edited without problems. I'am not going to encode the files to another format, because I did not spend 200 for a card that produces low quality HD videos that can't even be edited.
Please try to make some sence into this.

it really doesn't sound like a problem with the file but yet the OS or the PC choking... to me sounds like either the OS is corrupt or your hardware is choking,,,= over heat,,, De-fragmentation,,, bad install video card, out dated drivers chipset,,,Ect........

What happens if you try and edit in arcsoft?

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
I have not tried other editors, but I cannot use tsMuxer directly on any file recorded using the ArcSoft capture program and the HD PVR. It chokes on the audio stream (says it cannot recognize it). If I run the file through tsRemux and uncheck the "bypass audio sync" I can then get both streams into tsMuxer. So, you might want to try running the file through tsRemux first and see if the editor can handle it then. It is free and fast.
I am having numerous problems with the TME 2 suite and have reported the bugs. They have been acknowledged. I hope they fix them soon.
I am on WinXP with all the latest drivers.

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
Ok, so I take it that the problem is that my pc is not powerful enough. Fine. Except that I'm pretty sure that most people who buy this card have either low or mid-end pc so this kinda sets up card's actual requirements to high/very high-end pc. And tbh I don't see any reason why I would buy this card if I would have a high-end pc, I mean i could as well buy Intensity Pro which costs as much as this but produces a lot better quality video files.
I was able to edit the files by converting them to AVI using Lagarith codec, but it still sucks ass compressing files to another format every time I wan't do something with them. So overall I'm very dissapointed to this product. It's overpriced, needs another screen for capture preview, video quality/bitrate is too low for HD videos, and editing the captured files has been made as difficult as possible.

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
I don't see anything wrong with the specs of the pc in question. My question still stands can you edit in arcsoft? Does it matter what size the file is? What driver version do you have installed for the hd-pvr?

I didn't try adding very many clips, but at least with two clips inserted arcsoft didn't crash. However that doesn't really help since arcsoft isn't really good for video editing. There is no proper timeline and it seems that program won't let user decide about the rendering settings at all. Eg. my footage was captured in 720p but arcsoft insisted that output must be 1080p, which is not what I wanted. I may still try Adobe Premiere trial version and see what happens with it.

Newest one downloaded from your website.

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
I think I have the same problem. Are you recording to .m2ts files?
My suspicion is that this problem is caused by the newer (1.6*) drivers for the HD PVR. In the past, I was able to edit .m2ts files in Sony Vegas 10 that were recorded with the 1.5* drivers installed. Around a month ago I updated the driver to 1.6* and have not been able to edit. The newer drivers may have changed how .m2ts files are created.
What are your symptoms? I can open the files in Sony Vegas but if I try to play them or edit them it will crash the program soon after. I have also tried Sony Vegas 9 and Vegas Movie Studio HD 11.
Cheers,
dwm

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
^ Yes, I am recording to m2ts, but changing the format to ts didn't really help either. Usually when import to Vegas it freezes and then crashes. Once I was able to import and even produce, but the final video was totally messed up for some reason and it was unplayable. I was able to edit a bit in AVS Video Editor, but if I import more than 3 clips or so -> crash.

Re: Problem editing HD PVR video files
I tried every major editing software trail out there and the only one that ended up working without any problems was the Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 Trial. Been using it a lot. A little learning curve but its given me no problems with any of the HD Colossus files. Vegas wouldn't give me audio, AVID was the same and Arcsoft is a joke. Windows Movie Maker worked like a charm but its underwhelming simplicity leaves much to be desired.
