    Default Black boarder around image

I have found a couple of ways to eliminate the black box around the image recorded in Win-TV.
    But, both are problematic.
Both are time consuming. The first possibility is to recode the file in Nero, cropping the image. The other possibility is to record the HD signal whose original image fills the monitor, but that results in an overly large file which requires more hours of processing to get it to manageable size.
I am not very knowledgeable about computers, but I have used WinTV successfully in other versions, so I am wondering what setting I might have messed up.
If my television set can take the stream with the black box around the image and display it full screen, why isn't there a way to coax WinTV to record only the image? Without having to record the entire HD signal?

You should see a new option in CD 2.4b to be able to zoom this, so it fills the screen. In this case it's a 4x3 broadcast which contains a 16x9 letterboxed content.

The download available at this thread "WinTV v7 - New CD 2.4 (7.x.29209) available" does not identify itself as version "b"; it simply calls itself "wintv7_cd_2.4.exe".

Is this the one, or am I looking in the wrong place?

Just to be clear though - MrX is just talking about applying some zooming during playback in WinTV so they're not seen, the same as your television does. Black bars that are part of the broadcast will still be part of the recording. There is nothing we can do about that.

I have the wintv_cd_2.4d version installed, and it has the zoom options, but many of the zoom choices cause the video in the window to have its last lines replicated and copied, over and over, down to the bottom of the player windown. Starting with a 4:3 signal (I think) showing a letterboxed program, the zoom will cause the picture to get larger, but the bottom fifth or sixth of the window is filled with copies of the bottom line of the expanded picture. "Zoom 7.9% 4:3 Letterbox Show to FIll Monitor" is one of these; "13.7% 4:3 Show to Fill Monitor" is another (even worse); and there are others as well.

    Any suggestions or fixes? Thanks.

what renderer are you using (EVR? VMR9?)

Try updated graphics card drivers - I had a strange issue with Zoom on one PC but updated graphics card drivers fixed it.

I was using EVR (what's a renderer?). I changed to VMR9, and the zoom worked, but the picture is very slow and unwatchably jerky. The drivers are reasonably current; I do have "use hardware accelleration when availble selected".
