Default Is there a USB version WinTV product that can capture in HD? (Above S-Video)

I currently have the USB2-Live2, but I would like to upgrade to a USB version of a WinTV product that can capture in HD. Unfortunatly I cannot use anything internal, as my PC is still under warranty and cannot be opened.

Yes, the Hauppauge HD-PVR can capture up to 1080i from component video.

I could always pick up this lead (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Xbox-High-De.../dp/B000AYYADO), however looking at the following picture on the hauppauge site, it appears that until I pick up said component lead from Amazon, I could continue to use my current S-Video lead as well?

Wish I had the money for this product

I do not understand the main differences between these two products below (although I think I would prefer the regular HD PVR model as this has WinTV software bundled in, which I want if it works the same as my current one, automatically converting the .ts recordings into .mpg. The 'Gaming Edition' doesn't seem to have WinTV in the bundled software secification).

    HD PVR (model 1228)

HD PVR Gaming Edition (model 1440)

I think the main difference is the bundled software, plus slightly different cable set, plus the green vs blue colored light.

It's worth noting that WinTV will only convert MPEG2 recordings from .ts to .mpg. The HDPVR produces recordings that contain H.264 video, and this cant be stored in a .mpg container file.

Oh, in that case I guess I'm open to buying either version then. I can't find what file type the two PVR's listed above would record into? I ask because I assume on the blue light HD-PVR you would use the bundled WinTV to actually capture the videos. And if I recall correctly when I record in .ts using my current USB Live 2 and WinTV 7 setup I get no sound when playing in a media player which is not WinTV itself, and when editing the video in Sony Vegas.

Depending on file size I may end up editing the recorded files to chop the file size down (probably in Sony Vegas 9 as this is what I am familliar with). I guess as long as whatever the recorded filetype is can be played-back and imported into Sony Vegas with sound intact I should be fine. You seem to get more 3rd party file editing software with the blue HD-PVR anyway, so maybe one of those could stand-in for Sony Vegas if it doesn't work...

On a random train of thought, they don't offer the Gaming Editiion with the blue lights, do they?

What type of file you get depends on the recording software you use. With WinTV you'll always get a .ts file. I think with the bundled ArcSoft software you have the choice of either .ts or .m2ts files.

There is no reason you should get no audio playing back the files in other software, other than maybe not having the correct types of directshow filters installed (either decoder or splitter). I'd probably be easily fixed by installing haali spliter and ffdshow or similar.

Sorry, you're asking the wrong guy. You'd probably need to ring a sales office to ask any details like this.

I've just done some testing. I can actually play .ts files in media players and have sound. It is when I import a ts file into sony vegas that the sound is lost. I thought perhaps that it was a playback issue in vegas itself with .ts files, but even the output .wmv file is without sound.

Its probably just a case of Vegas not knowing how to handle AAC audio. It probably cant play it or convert it.

    Just thinking...

If I were to get the blue-lighted HD PVR (model 1228), I would still have my WinTV7 software that I have currently.

Do you think I would be able to capture HD PVR footage through WinTV7, and thus have it automatically convert into .mpg, thus being able to be imported into Sony Vegas and compressed-down to a smaller filesize/.wmv file type?
