    Default HD PVR Setup

    Hiyas ,
could someone confirm if I have my set up is correct to record HDTV at the resolution it is being broadcast (as high Resolution as is being broadcast) . I want to have my recording to happen on my desktop PC . My desktop PC has a Video Mate E900F PCI tuner card in it . I will hook up my HD PVR through a HD set top box.

    1. External aerial input to my HD PVR , component hook up from my HD set top box to my HD PVR .
    2. Output from my HD PVR (with all Component hook up for HD) to my existing tuner card which has a S-video to component hook up .
    3. USB from HD PVR to my desktop computer .

Will my recordings be recorded in HD ? , IE / 720 P or greater ? The only reason I have to use S-video is because my video card & tuner card do not have a component direct hook up . Would I be right in saying the recording will be HD (or whatever is being broadcast) , but what I am viewing on my desktop computer screen would only be 480 P maximum because I am going through S-video .Dont want to go to the trouble of buying a HD PVR if it is not going to do what i want it to. The only reason as I am not happy with current TV tuner card is I cannot record in HD (720 x 576 maximum) . Will the above hook up work ? I am yet to buy the set top box or the HD PVR , but I am ready to do so if it will work as I want it to .

Thanks for your help in advance

    Regards Deejkay

    Hi,

Didn't see this as only usually check out the HD-PVR section.

I'm not entirely clear on what you're trying to do, apart from record from your HD stb. If you're connecting the STB to the HD-PVR via component, then the capture software on the PC should capture the HD programs fine.

The bit i'm having difficulties with is the output, are you outputting to the same PC? I'm not sure how a signal from Component to S-Video into a TV tuner card will come out. I think that's one you'll have to try to find out. If it is the same PC you're outputting to, why? You will get a preview on the Arcsoft software anyway.

    Hiya Seraph ,
Thanks for reply , so connecting my HD set top box to the HD PVR via component cable & Connecting the HD PVR to my computer via USB2 is all I have to do to view the HDTV I am recording to the HD PVR ? Thats all ? Could you please confirm this . The only reason I was trying to connect via Svideo was because I didnt think the program I was recording would show on my PC , with just the USB2 cable . Thanks for your help .

Yes, that is all you need to do. The encoded audio/video is delivered to the PC over USB2.
