Default WinTV-HVR-2200 MC PCI-Express. Trying to record from S-Video/stereo audio inputs

    Hi,

I just bought this WinTV-HVR-2200 MC PCIE card in Australia yesterday as its the most highly recommended one here for Window 7.

I reason I got the card in the first place was to digitize camcorder home via S-Video and Stereo audio inputs; but I'm pulling my hair cut trying to get this to work.

WinTV-HVR-2200 MC PCI-Express 1x card with a multi-standard PAL TV and DVB-T receiver, S-Video, composite video and stereo audio inputs.

Ok, so far I've tried to use Windows Media Centre to recognise the s-video/stereo input but its completely unintuitive. For example, I've added a TV service as a "Cable Service" with a set top box; I can see and hear the output there, but then it gets stuck trying to look for an IR receiver and the TV service won't complete.

I've tried to use VLC, but then I can't get audio as it doesn't show up as a device. This is really quite a stressful capture card and I'm worried that I wasted cash buying it when it can't actually record S-Video/audio like it said it could.

Did it come with WinTV v7?

It came with a driver disc: "CD-DRIVERS-V1.3C". I checked the CD contents, but it doesn't look like there is any specific application to run the card, but I ran both the Update Driver and Software buttons from the disc.

Card box has WinTV written all over it, so I think its the right card and drivers. I bought it locally from this place: http://www.umart.com.au/pro/products...id=2&sid=29537.

It was the most recommended (and expensive capture) card that they have - thought it would be best and easiet to use/setup.

I downloaded wintv7_cd_2.2d.exe from http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/supp...l.html?prod=16. The update driver button worked but not the update wintv.

Do I have the wrong drivers/software for the card?

The card you purchase is designed for use in Media Center, it just comes with the drivers for the card only.

To use S-Video or Composite in Media Center you need the "Microsoft USB Remote Reciever" otherwise MCE just won't let you set it up. The one you bought doesn't include this, you just got a bare card. We do do a version of the card with the USB Remote/Reciever also.

WinTV v7 application supports the HVR-2200 and works with S-Video/Compoite out of the box. This app can be purchase from the web store here:

Alternatively there are free 3rd party application like GB-PVR which should work with it.

When I got the card, I also bought a Hauppauge USB ir remote for MCE. However this didn't help when trying to get S-video inputs. I believe that there is some flaw in Windows Media Centre that it just doesn't allow S-video inputs.

On a good note, I followed your suggestion of getting a 3rd party application. So I download Media Portal. This application is a media center, and had a button to input S-video inputs as an option under the Analogue Tuner settings. Tested to input from my camcorder and it worked! What a relief! Media Portal seems to be a very flexible replacement for WMC. I just need to setup and test to digital tuners etc to see if those parts work too.

Guess its case closed. Thanks for the help.
