a little useless step, from today the card is correctly recognized by lspci
(need the latest pci.ids file)
There are no linux drivers available for this card - are there any plans to release linux drivers for this card?

yes .... I am just looking to get myth tv working and realizing that there are no linux drivers for this card !!!! How poor !!
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.ph...WinTV-HVR-4400
will keep digging and see if anybody is working on it.
Hauppauge should be getting off their arse's and giving these guys free cards.
Looks like the community has given one of the hard working guys that build the kernel
drivers for free a card ... fingers crossed.
FYI my lspci reports the card as ...
0b:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. Hauppauge Inc. HDPVR-1250 model 1196 (rev 04)

I've asked on the status of Linux drivers for that particular board. We don't officially support it but a number of our engineers actually work on providing linux support themselves.

old pci.ids definition file (locate it, here is in /usr/share/hwdata, and verify the release date): the newest one must look as:
http://pciids.sourceforge.net/ to get the latest oneCode:02:00.0 Multimedia video controller: Conexant Systems, Inc. CX23887/8 PCIe Broadcast Audio and Video Decoder with 3D Comb (rev 04) Subsystem: Hauppauge computer works Inc. WinTV-HVR-4400-HD model 1278
if you don't want to change yours one
cd to the folder where you downlaod that file
then
lspci -i pci.ids
