Default Using both Media Center and WinTV Extend

I have a WinTV HVR-1250. Since the last WinTV update, if I used Windows Media Center (either locally, or through the XBOX), and then try to use WinTV (either locally, or remotely using WinTV extend), I get an error message about "Tuner Not Available". The only way I've been able to use WinTV again is to reboot the PC.

Anyone know of a quicker way of freeing up the tuner after using Media Center. I don't use it often, and I know I can't use Media Center and WinTV at the same time, but it would nice to be able to use either one depending on my need.

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

It works ok for me using a HVR-4400 (which uses the same HVR85BDA driver)

It's available in Extend, WinTV or MCE straight away after closing whichever app.

you could try disabling this - i notice this takes control of the tuner after MCE is closed

    1) Run regedit

    2) Browse to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\Service\BackgroundScanner

    3) Right click and choose New, DWORD.
Name the entry "PeriodicScanEnabled" (no quotes) and set the value to 0.

    4) Restart the computer (or specifically the Windows Media Center Receiver service)

Thanks Mr. X. The registry solution looks to have resolved the problem. I was surprised to see a response to this after so long.

Sorry, I must have missed the thread originally, I found it when I was creating this WinTV Extend sub forum.

    Glad it helped
