I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum and I promise, I tried using search and it came up with no results. Here's my problem.

I purchased a new computer with Windows 7 on it, it's an HP Pavilion p6516f-b and I was hoping to put my previous Hauppauge capture card in it but of course, it didn't fit. Soooo I went online on the hunt for a card just like it and purchased the Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1290.

I downloaded the Windows 7 driver for this card and after I installed the card, I ran that driver software. Now, the software that came with the card is confusing. It's a general blank cd with drivers for models I've never heard of and it has WinTV 2000 and 6. I installed version 6 first and when I tried to open WinTV, it couldn't find any channels.

I tried another program, that has a capture feature and it works. So I know the card is fine. I tried installing WinTV 2000 after this, but still, nothing.

I tried reinstalling WinTV 6 and then it wouldn't ask me if I want to scan for channels and it wouldn't let me into Suite Manager or anything, actually.

I read online I'm missing some files. So I reinstalled the Windows 7 driver again (even though the capture card works in another program) and tried installing WinTV 6 many times.

I can't figure out why I cannot get anything to work with WinTV. After all the installs, the programs I could run it in suddenly had problems and now only one program will work with it. My cable hookup is analog, it comes from a special Comcast box that was released to de-scramble channels after the big change a while ago.

I'm a complete newbie to Windows 7. I don't know if maybe there's a magic trick to all of this? Does anyone know what the problem can be? It can't be the actual hardware itself. I have the card hooked up as cable and composite cables.

I was hoping to find a forum with WinTV 6, since 7 is not on the disc, but it doesn't seem to be the thing now. I have never had problems with a Hauppauge card not working with WinTV before, so I'm baffled. Can anyone help?
