    Post Software Media center problem!

    greatings!
    my name is cj
    recently in 2009 i buy a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1110 (67xxx)
    http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/prod...a_hvr1100.html

    in my local store:
    http://www.inforlandia.pt/catalogo/d....php?id=702196

but im very disapointed about the software to see tv.
testing the recent software is very "heavy" cpu in 100% and blocks the pc.
not im testing other kind of software and i see that works fine cpu in 35%.
    example:
    K! tv(does not record tv)
KM Player - (records audio video discincronised)
but they still have some bugs
can you build a program doesnt "eat" all the pc resources?
i think is possible to see tv in light software

    oh, by the way...
the dvb-t in portugal is "mpeg4.h264"
none of the software catch in portugal tdt format
what is your solutions for this?

    my pc is:
    desktop
    motherb: asrock
    bios: American trends [2004]
video card: sis 64mb build in
    cpu:amd 2.4ghz
    mem 1250mb
    OS: windows 7 pt-pt
    audio: c-media ac97

It sounds like you're watching analog channels? If so, this device is a software encoding device, and it does take a lot of CPU to encode the video stream. The WinTV app always encodes while watching, so that you can pause/skip-back/etc while watching tv. At http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/site/prod...a_hvr1100.html, we list 2.8GHz as the recommended minimum CPU for watch analog. You can get it to work with less CPU, but you'll probably need to enable game mode, and tick the 'disable game mode recording' option, then reboot. Be warned though, after doing this you loose the ability pause/skip/record. To have all software features available, with a software encoder card like this, you really need a faster CPU (so you can run with game mode disabled).

If you're watching digital H.264 channels, you need the WinTV HD version, which comes with H.264 decoder. Decoding high definition H.264 channels is very hard on a PC, and often requires hardware acceleration to be enabled, and the user to have an nvidia 8500/8600 or higher video card that supports hardware H.264 acceleration.

    hi !
yes i see tv in analog channel cable company zon portugal.
my problem is why the software pulls lot of computer?
    i dont understand ....
still, with cpu AMD Semprom 2.4ghz i use quite well another softwareK! tv
i can see with low cpu usage and receves quite good.
is old software because the last update is from 2005 and is the most light software for my pc.
i download the drivers test the windows media center for windows 7, and he recognizes the card but he dont receve any analog channels in auto or manual mode.

WinTV7 is modern software designed to do stuff like live pause etc, and because of this it is always encoding analog video to MPEG2. Hardware encoder cards do this with only 3-5% CPU usage. Unfortunately have a software encoder card, which needs to use your PC's CPU to do this encoding, and that requires approximately a P4 2.8GHz or faster to give decent performance. Your CPU is slower than this, so it'll use a large amount of your CPU, and probably be sluggish.

As I mentioned though, you can turn off this "always encoding" functionality by enabling game mode and ticking the 'disable game mode recording' option and rebooting. This should give you a lower CPU usage, and will operate more like 'K! tv' etc, but you'll lose some features like live pause etc. It'll be fine for just watching tv though.

    ok
    another light software is VLC
he makes pause tv too but the caching is for the memory ... i guess.
another thing is he has all the codecs and save stream video but he don't memorize the channels
example of the use vlc for tdt(televisão digital terrestre) portugal.

im going try again the wintv 7.
    see what i can do

VLC cant' do anything magic. It doesn't matter if the buffer is memory or hard drive (ours does memory+disk and can do just memory) the main CPU usage is encoding the Analogue data into Digital form to play back. This is encoded in software no matter what app. The only way for low CPU is to not encode it but use the Live Video Preview (i.e. Game Mode in our app)
