HD PVR 'unknown device' in Windows 7 64-bit
Hi I am running Windows 7 64-bit and I'm unable to install the HD PVR drivers from the official site. It was running fine when I was using Vista 64-bit on the same system. My netbook with Windows XP 32 can recognize the device and drivers just fine.
The device shows up as 'Unknown Device' in the device manager. When I try to run HcwDriverInstall.exe it says compatible hardware has not been found. I also couldn't manually direct windows to install the drivers by searching the driver folder.
Additionally, when I turn on the HD PVR with the USB cable attached to the Windows 7 PC, the HD PVR freezes with the blue and yellow lights on and never displays any output to the TV, and a taskbar message pops up displaying "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned." The HD PVR operates just fine without the USB cable attached or with the USB cable attached to the netbook running Windows XP 32.
Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you may have the wrong driver or you are using an USB lead not supplied with it. In the first instance try a new lead, in the second try downloading the driver from the hauppauge website, extracting it to a folder and then updating the driver > let me select the driver to install > have disk > point to the location of the driver you downloaded from the web.
I'm using the latest Hauppauge / ARCSoft and apart from a few minor issues it's working fine on W7 64
