    Default H.264 Decoders

Has anyone tried using Cyberlinks PowerDVD 9 or ffdshow for decoding H.264?

I've running Vista 64bit OS, but i get no options for H.264 under third party decoders. Cyberlink and ffdshow options are available for all the other options (see screenshot).

H.264 decoder are not as interchangeable as other decoders. We ship with the ArcSoft H.264 decoder on our HD retail CD. We've also seen some versions of the Cyberlink decoder working, but I think they changed somethng in the latest PDVD which makes the decoder non work in 3rd party apps.

They probably didn't register the filter but call the Decoder from a Manifest.

you might just be able to register the AX file if you can find where it's installed.

That would explain it - i had been using PowerDVD 7 for the decoding on my old PC.

Well, i've successfully registered the Cyberlink H.264 decoders, and i now have pictures. Unfortunately no sound yet. I managed to register a Cyberlink AC3 decoder, but not one for AAC, and the ffdshow AAC decoders just don't seem to work.

Pretty cool stuff though, i didn't realise you could do this, so thanks Mr X.

    Glad that's working.

Try the Monogram AAC audio Decoder. Just download the AX file and register. Lots of people in NZ use this decoder succesfully in WinTV v7
