Default WinTV Nova-T USB Stick (70001/a1b5) & Magic Eye (Sky)

    Good morning all,

I'm mesh new to the Hauppauge forum - quick query really, I have a USB WinTv Nova-T Stick (it's fairly old - from 2nd year university i think - so three years!) Basically what i want to do is connect my skyhd magic eye to it (I know it won't broadcast in HD) but and quality is fine just for my office viewing while working.

The sky hd RF outlet channel is currently set to 47. Now i'm struggling to find the channels with the RF lead connected to the aerial port on the Usb stick?

Is this something that is never going to work, or am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks

    Mesh

I realised it might not be possible as it might have something to do with analogue/digital signal - if so, can someone suggest a good alternative

My system at the moment is i7 920, 6gb ram, radeon 4890, and 1tb hdd... so anything to compliment the system would be ideal - but not something that will hit the bank to hard

Thanks everyone for your time in reading

Unfortunately, the Nova-T-Stick can only receive digital terrestrial (Freeview). If you want to connect a Sky Digital box you will need a card that supports analogue.

If you are happy opening up your PC, I would recommend either:
    HVR-1300 for a PCI slot
    or
HVR-1700 for a PCI Express slot

The reason I recommended those two cards is that they have hardware encoders for analogue.

However, if you want to save a bit of money you could go for a software-encoding card such as the HVR-900, HVR-1100 or HVR-1200 and with a Core i7 you probably won't even notice the CPU hit.

I've recommended the hybrid cards, because they leave the option open to use both analogue and digital Freeview.

Thank you for your quick response cdldt,

My local overpriced chain computer store only stocks the nova sticks and a HVR-1100 priced at £60

They stock this doesn't say HVR though :S WinTV-NOVA-HD-S2 PCI Card

If you want to use the Nova-HD-S2, you would need to run a cable straight from your satellite dish to the Nova card, and you wouldn't be able to receive Sky channels - only the Freesat channels (which aren't a bad selection). You will definitately need a dedicated cable straight from the dish though.

Have you considered ordering a new card online? The HVR-900, HVR-1100 and HVR-1200 should only cost around £40-45.

    Edit: This is a bargain:

hi sorry to bring up a old thread but i didnt want to re write a new one relating to the same product.

    so i bought - the hvr1300 (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Haupp...emote-Software)

but now i decided to use the remote control but noticed there is not normal 3.55mm jack on the card - if you check the link you'll see what i mean!
