Default HVR 1600 dual tuners, etc. in v1.1b vs. v1.0c

With v1.0c, recording 2 programs at once (one analog, one digital) worked beautifully. This was the v7 feature that delighted me the most, since I had been unable to make that work reliably in any version of WinTV 6.

In 1.1b, I can no longer do it! Scheduler tells me, "WinTV is unable to schedule the specified recording. No tuner is available at the specified time."

Also: This may be the fault of my probably near-minimum hardware specifications (P4 2.66Ghz 512Mb RAM integrated graphics and sound), but live TV doesn't seem to work quite as well as in 1.0c, either. For instance, not every time, but frequently, when changing channel, stopping live TV, or closing the program, video will freeze and the last bit of audio will be rapidly repeated for a few seconds, but then things will proceed as they should. I never saw that particular behavior in 1.0c. This sort of thing seems quite random. Tried for a log to attach to this post, but just when I WANTED it to screw up, it worked beautifully. Let me know if you think it's worth trying harder for a log or otherwise pursuing.

When do changes to the rendering options take effect (e.g. immediately when ticked, after clicking "OK", after the program is restarted)? I know that in v6 the primary settings definitely did matter. In 1.0c, I played with the settings briefly and decided the default EVR worked as well as any, so left it. In 1.1b, I decided that if the program needs to be restarted, maybe "overlay" works better, but restarting will cure problems anyway, so it's hard to tell. Since I need to ask, I guess it isn't making any HUGE difference on my system, but just to reassure myself that an improvement wouldn't be just that simple.....

Thank you for making v7 available and for your efforts to make it perform well for all of us.

We introduced checking of overlapping recordings on hybrid devices. I noticed this just recently that some devices were not being treated as combo but rather as hybrid (all european boards are hybrid not combo)

We'll be making changes around this for CD 1.1d which is targeted at ATSC/QAM products (1.1b was aimed at DVB boards mainly, though obviously there is a lot of overlap)

Renderer changes happen after stopping TV, so if you press STOP then TV again, it will have changed.

We have seen some reports on ATSC of the behaviour you describe and are looking at the cause (doesn't seem to happen on DVB-T), pressing rewind on the app should fix this??

    Thanks for the feedback.

BTW I found I could use both tuners if I fire up another instance of WinTV v7 with "wintv7.exe -multi"

though scheduling will be fixed in the next build - this will just give you something to use until then.

Thank you for the replies, Mr X. Very pleased to hear that fixes are already in the works for the next release!

During that behavior I described in my previous post, it seems my mouse isn't very responsive either, and it gets itself straightened out before I can manage to click rewind. Every time I've seen that, it has recovered on its own after only a couple of seconds. I had already discovered that pausing might help for some other very occasional random glitchiness (e.g. loss of sync or freezing video). I haven't had the opportunity to try rewind on that, but it seems similar--and a little faster!

Regarding the -multi workaround: were you actually able to schedule two recordings at the same time this way? If so, I must be missing something about exactly how, because I tried and couldn't. Even with just a single instance, though, I am able to *use* both tuners at once. I can even use them both to record at the same time by scheduling one recording and clicking the record button for the other. I just can't *schedule* two recordings at once.

Should I take the absence of a reply to mean that the -multi workaround won't work for scheduling? Since I like simultaneous recoding even more than I like the additional features in 1.1b, I think I may go back to 1.0c for now, but thanks again--I eagerly await 1.1d!

It seems I rejoiced prematurely...Did this actually make it into 1.1d?? It still doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm assuming that my inability to schedule overlapping recordings is caused by the same already-known issue and that my logs, etc. would provide no additional useful information, but if I'm wrong, please let me know.

I'm also starting to suspect that these changes didn't make it into 1.1d, but still hoping there might be some way to fix it before the next cd.

yes, it didn't make it into 1.1d, I'll try and get it in the 1.1f that's not far away.

Thanks for the reply, Mr X. Having this confirmed at least removes the temptation to waste a lot of time reinstalling, etc. hoping for something different to happen, and my disappointment is tempered by all the really good stuff that did make it into 1.1d. I'll be eagerly watching for 1.1f!

Is there by any chance a way to just disable the checking for overlapping recordings as a workaround while I wait for this to move up your list of development priorities?

    Thanks,
    Connie
