Hi
New to the forum but have owned a DVB HVR 1100 for some time now. I upgraded to Version 7 cd2.4d today as my Version 6 kept chrashing. All works great except for my composite connection. I can view it all ok and can record it but the issue I have is that is only displays in 4:3 and not 16:9.
It is using my Sky+HD box as a source and its set up as 16:9 on there and also on WinTV.
Any answers will be greatly received.
Ben
Please check the WinTV 7 HOW To Forum. It shows you how to do it:

Hi
I set the registry files and mentioned on the link to 3 (did both CaptureGenPCI and CaptureGenUSB) and reboot my pc but it still comes out as 4:3
This was proved by setting the Monitor shape on WinTV to "auto-size" and it shows as 4:3 when viewing composite and then moves to 16:9 when watching anything else.
My setup is WinTV7 cd2.4d, HVR1100 (PCI), Windows Vista 32, Quad Core with 4gig ram. The PC has multiple login accounts but mine has admin rights.
Any more ideas ?
Thanks in advance
Ben

Hi
I tried the Registery mod for both CaptureGenUSB and CaptureGenPCI by setting it to 3 and it made no difference at all :(
My setup is as follows :-
WinTV 7 cd 2.4d
HVR-1110
Composte connected to Sky+HD box
Dell Quad Core
4GB RAM
Windows Vista 32bit
There are multiple accounts configured for family member but I have admin rights and WinTV was installed under my user account.
Thanks in advance

If you want to drop me a PM with the details, I'll happily remote in and see what's gone wrong.

Hi Mr X
Thanks for offering to share screens to help sort me out but I am not always around and normally on at weird times (like now at 01:13 in the morning)
I have been doing some more digging and noticed that when I start up WinTV my composite shows as 16:9 for a blink of an eye and then goes to 4:3. I took a copy of the logs (see below) as this might give you more of an indication of the issue I am seeing.
Thanks in advance
Ben

This is normal. WinTV doesnt know the real aspect ratio in the stream until after playback begins and it starts receiving data. At startup it defaults to 16:9, since this is the most common aspect ratio these days. Soon after that it receives the real aspect ratio from the file, saying it's 4:3, so WinTV adjusts where the video is.
Can I add on to the discussion?
I noticed that regardless of me selecting between the 16:9 or 4:3, the recordings of my HVR2200 are still 720x576 (resolution).
So is it really necessary to select the aspect ratio?

I noticed that regardless of me selecting between the 16:9 or 4:3, the recordings of my HVR2200 are still 720x576 (resolution). This is normal. The aspect ratio is about the shape of the pixels, not the number of pixels. ie, if you look at commerical PAL DVDs, an old school 4:3 DVD has a resolution of 720x576, and a widescreen 16:9 DVD has the exact same resolution of 720x576.

Thanks.
So does that mean that if my video player is set to a fixed display aspect ratio regardless of the aspect ratio of the videos I play, it doesn't matter what aspect ratio I make WinTV record in?

So does that mean that if my video player is set to a fixed display aspect ratio regardless of the aspect ratio of the videos I play, it doesn't matter what aspect ratio I make WinTV record in?I guess that depends on what your video player is doing exactly. Most players will lock at the aspect ratio flags in header of the file to determine how the video should be displayed. If you player provides an option to ignore these flags, and force a specifc aspect ratio, then sure you should be able to do that.
At the end of the day, the only real difference between a 16:9 and 4:3 recording is one byte in the video header. The actual capture is done exactly the same way, is the same size, and the analog input signal looks exactly the same, it's just flagged as being 16:9 or 4:3 in the video header, which ultimately prompts the player to display it a different way. The registry settings Mr X referred to earlier in the thread just tell the driver to flag the input signal as 16:9 instead of the default 4:3.
Hopefully that makes sense.

Yeah.
It seems that some players like Media Player Classic (under default settings) will ignore the aspect ratio of the video and just size the window according to the resolution.
So I suppose I'm getting the answer. Thanks. :)

Right, after a slight Hi-jacking of my thread I am still having the same problem. I have been all through the regestry and changed all "Aspect Ratio" from 0 to 3 as per the link given and I still get the composite squahed :( - any other ideas at all ?
Cheers
Ben
