So I upgraded my PC to improve transcoding performance and get a good smooth feed at a high bitrate. Since installing the new hardware I'm getting much lower CPU usage, but now I'm noticing a slight choppiness to the feed on my iPad and iPhone. I'm now noticing it right away and I'm not sure it was this bad before on older versions of extend and my old hardware. Was there something in 2.4d or iOS 5 that added a slight choppiness? The best way to describe it would be like a transcoded video that has dropped frames every second. Does the new version have an issue with frame integrity?

Ok, also connected to Extend from my Dell Mobile Workstation laptop (Core i7, 8 gb ram) and it also has the same jitter in the feed that I see on the ipad and iphone. Is this then something with the Extend server? I'm assuming the compression settings and different codecs only affect what is played on the local PC where the card is installed?
can you try and play the encoded file in VLC C:\users\public\videos\pause buffer\iphone-xxxxxxx.ts that gets created (mark it read only after starting streaming, so it doesn't get deleted) does it play ok?
what tuner do you have?

Ok, changed it to read-only and watched it through VLC. Yes, it exhibits the same jitter as the live feed on the iphone / ipad.
You can see the jitter best on stations like ESPN that have a scrolling news ticker.
Have the Hauppauge HVR-1600 capture card.

I've noticed the video being less smooth on the 2.4d version as well. It seems as if there are dropped frames. I noticed it on the first release to work with IOS 5. I'm running IOS 5 on my iphone and my ipad and it's jittery on both. My wife's 3g is also jittery on ios 4.

I agree, I'm thinking now I surely would've noticed this choppy of a feed on the prior version. Almost want to uninstall and reinstall an older version but it won't work with ios 5 that I have on both devices so that kind of defeats the purpose. I'm going to try and post a clip that has a scrolling ticker so you can easily see what I'm talking about.
can you upload that iphone-xxx.ts file and a short recording (original TS) from the channel in question?

Iphone pause buffer attached. Recording from PC was too big to attach here. Not the greatest example, but when you see tiles and text moving on the screen you can see the choppiness.
try using www.megaupload.com - I could do with the original TS really.

Ok. I uploaded to my personal webspace (Comcast). The iphone file is from the pause buffer from a feed playing on my Ipad 2. The ESPN_ file is the one recorded from my PC where the card is installed. You can see the difference in the recording quality especially on action sports like the football game.

Mr X, could you take a look at this and give me some things to try. I recently upgraded my PC and feel I have a fast setup now and I'm still having a jitter when watching anything through extend. It's not there when watching on wintv. Ts files served up above. Thanks.

Can anyone confirm they are having the same issue as me? When watching WinTv on Ipad the feed has a slight jitter when watching anything high action (sports). I'm looking into these stand alone devices (like the Hauppauge Broadway) to provide the feed, but I already have the Hauppauge video card and it all set up, and it works, just not the way I think it should. I'd really like to try some new settings for transmitting the feed, if at all possible.
can you re-upload that recording and I'll take a look
