I just noticed now that the old fault that i reported way back in CD 2.3f is still occurring too...
This one seems to start recording at the scheduled start time, then begins recording it again about 15 minutes later on the other tuner, then stops the first recording early and continues the second recording 'til the scheduled end time.
First recording is to file named as normal. e.g. "Wonders_Of_The_Universe_20110807_1558.ts"
Second recording of same program is to a file with name containing the drive letter and path where the
recordings are stored, plus doubled time stamp and file extension. e.g. "E__TV_Recordings_Wonders_Of_The_Universe_20110807_ 1558.ts_20110807_1616.ts"
This is absolutely useless...
if i have 2 recordings scheduled at the same time at-least one will get clobbered, and the other (if i'm lucky) will get split across 2 files!!!
Looks like i'm going back to using CD2.3d AGAIN!!!
I'll ask TheNewGuy to take a look. I think I know what the issue is with the 0kb recordings now though, it's using the wrong tuner for the second recording, so it's using the one that's in use. We need to see why.
Are these also single, weekly or daily recordings?

Hi,
Yes, the majority of the programs i schedule are either weekly or single, and i have had it happen on both.
The recent stuff with the duplicated recordings seemed to happen on every scheduled recording.
I have now reverted back to using 2.3d, as that only mucks up the occasional recording, not every single one!
can I confirm that the recording names - you wrote these yourself not let it auto generate the recording name correct?

Not quite sure what you mean by "auto generate"...
Most scheduler entries are usually added from the EPG, by selecting the program and clicking the"Record" button
(Sometimes i add them manually and type in the name).
So the name in the scheduler would be something like "Wonders Of The Universe".
The rest of the file name is generated by the software at the time of recording.
Thanks - I'll try it that way.
Is there anything in Event Viewer? (Can you export your event viewer and zip it and PM me the link to download it)
Are there any files in the logs\minidump folder?
I'm currently using your database exactly and leaving it to record as you would.
Can you explain about these recordings:
Concrete_Canvas_20110806_1928
Kevin_McCloud__Slumming_It_20110806_2027
I dont' see them in the Recurring Recordings table. Was this the last week they were due to record or something?
Also if you have some time to help reproduce it would be great, what I'd really like to see is a copy of the database BEFORE it fails e.g. make a copy before the evening recordings and then when it fails tell me which ones failed and attach the copy of the database from before it failed.

Hi,
I no longer have CD2.4 installed, i reinstalled 2.3d as i record stuff almost every day and need it to be (more) reliable.
I no longer have the logs folder from 2.4 due to reinstalling, and the Windows Event Viewer didn't show anything unusual.
The recordings you mentioned,
Concrete_Canvas_20110806_1928 was weekly, i think i removed this, as it is no longer on, something else was on in its place the last time.
Kevin_McCloud__Slumming_It_20110806_2027 was for my partner, so probably a 1 off, i don't think it's on again.
I'm happy to help debug this problem, but i may not be able to do it for a few days.

I've been trying to reproduce this problem today, but I've been unable to so far.
I've sent you a beta version to try.

I've sent you a beta version to try.
I had the same problem, which I fixed by deleting the old cd ie completely uninstalled the old version and freshly installing the latest cd
I still cannot get to watch my recordings on the internet on my laptop with extend I can watch the channels but my recordings start for a second and then stop, although it works through my local connection.
Are you using CD 2.4? Can you post a set of logs when you try to watch recordings remotely and it fails?

Hi,
I did a clean reinstall of CD2.4 on Tuesday night, and did a bunch of test recordings overnight (about 8) + the usual ones scheduled for the Wednesday evening, and so far I have not had that weird duplicated files fault occur since!
I have programs scheduled to record tonight, so will install the beta after that and see how it goes.
thanks

I have cd2.4
I often cannot even get logged in to 86.161.168.149 to remote view
Any ideas.
Hmm.. encountered my first zero-byte recording using version 2.4 now.

Hi, I installed the beta of CD2.4 the other day, and got another 0 byte recording tonight, so guess it's not cured.

I believe your issue is still that it's using the wrong tuner to record when it's a 0kb recording. It's trying to use the one already in use rather than the free one. I've asked TheNewGuy to try and add some logging to see why and I'll send you a new version to try to get us some more information.
can you post the matching tvserver/usb.txt files for the bad logs you just attached?

Hi, the other files were locked by some process, so i couldn't copy them.
I restarted windows in safe mode and copied them this morning. :)

Unfortunately that TVServer.txt doesnt cover the time of your recordings. You must have restarted, causing the logs to be restarted.

yep, computer was shutdown overnight. :(

Next time it happens, capture all the logs. If it doesnt let you access TVServer.txt etc, then from the task manager kill HauppaugeTVServer.exe and CaptureGenUSB.exe and you should be able to.

Well it didn't make me wait long.
I was watching "Campbell Live" when scheduled "Wonders Of The Universe" started, and what a surprise...it stayed at 0 bytes!
I'm currently recording (the remainder of it) manually, so will uploaded the logs when it's finished.
Yes, it looks like it always fails when 1 tuner is in use.
thanks! Did you not still have this reg key set? This makes it create multiple TVServer/USB log files so it doesn't matter if you reboot.
HKLM\Software\Hauppauge\TVServer
LogWithProcessID=1
Might be worth enabling this while we are looking at this.

I have uploaded the log files from tonights failure:

was there a wintv7rec.txt file also (for the other recording?)
bpweir

which recording?
was there more than 1 recording happening at the time or just 1 single recording?

Hi, there was just 1 recording, but i was watching "Campbell Live", so 1 of the 2 tuners was in use when the recording started.
I just checked a recording I made last night and the file is 0 Bytes.
I'm only having a single tuner and wasn't watching anything during the recording.
This might be caused by overlapping times problem (reported in another thread) I had earlier yesterday evening, so maybe the software was under the impression something was already running.

I've been having a similar problem, maybe a different cause, but perhaps this might help.
I have a single tuner card with a satellite feed. This has all been working fine for months and months. Several weeks ago I moved to a new apartment which has an in-building satellite distribution system rather than a directly connected dish.
Since then, all my scheduled recordings on one particular channel (Channel 4 HD) have ended up as 0 bytes. All recordings I make from within the winTV7 window by hitting the record button on that channel work fine. Other channels also work fine.
I just noticed today that, if I start WinTV7 with that channel selected in a previous session then I get a "No Signal' message on the screen. If I tune to another channel, then tune back to the problem channel the signal is okay and I can see the audio/video perfectly. I suspect what is happening is that when the scheduled recording tries to first access that same channel it gets a 'no signal' problem and therefore records 0 bytes.
So like an idiot I decided to delete all channels and rescan. Now I cannot get that channel back for some reason (even though the info for the channel is in the satellite XML file). I guess i'll have to figure that out before I can go back and sort out the original problem.
ETA: Upgraded to 2.4 with same results, but got my Channel 4 HD back by scanning for Freesat only on 28.2E, not sure why it didn't show up on main 28.2E scan

0 byte files are still occuring regularly in CD 2.4c (it just happened again tonight).
Any chance you can fix this fault soon, as this is pissing me off to the point where i am ready to throw the bloody TV card away and buy an expensive HD recorder, just to be rid of this problem!
The earlier versions (1.1 -> 1.3-ish) didn't seem to have this problem, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out!

These 0 byte recordings are caused by bugs/flaws in the scheduler.
Recently I had 2 of them myself (while I only have one card) and was able to write down the steps I took, before the problem occured.
I really hope Hauppauge is looking into this, since we must be able to trust this software to record the programs we want.
In the end that's why we schedule these programs in the first place, isn't it :)
can I get remote access to one of your PC's? Drop me a PM and we can arrange. If I get logs we can work out what was causing it.
