No SPDIF passthrough

I don't seem to be getting SPDIF passing through the unit. It records the input no problem but it is not putting the input back onto the output.

If I pull both cables and point them end-to-end it plays into my AMP no problem. Push them back into the PVR and no sound. Both cables running from source to amp work too.

I am sure this works sometimes and at other times it doesn't. I have tried power on/off, unit on/off, USB in/out.

The video is passing through fine.

Any ideas? Is it broke?
