Hi all,

Got my HD PVR last week and finally got round to setting it up today.

In between ordering the PVR and setting it up, I've been lucky enough (or so I thought) to have my Sky+ HD box replaced (one of the faulty Pace batch). The new STB is a Samsung one and is more responsive and with a better HD and SD output (to these eyes anyway).

Everything was going well until I went to hook up the component cables to the PVR. The old Pace box has HDMI and component output. The new Samsung has HDMI only (as well as SCART RGB). Grrrrrrr!

So I have discovered that the lovely QED do an RGB SCART to component converter box (deep joy, another box) - click (http://www.qed.co.uk/162/gb/product/accessories/qcv_scart_to_component_video.htm) for link to specs.

My question is: will this work with the PVR and give me 1080i input to the PVR? (The Sky STB outputs 1080i).

I'm hoping that it will or the PVR is a bit of a waste of time - currently got it hooked up via a convoluted route to check that it works... Sky STB SCART to Sony DVD Recorder SCART and then DVD R Component Out to PVR Component In (audio is DVD R Optical out to PVR Optical in). It works OK but definitely not getting 1080i - which is no surprise is it!

Just out of interest, I'm assuming using S-Video (yes, the Samsung box has S-Video but no component - unbelievable, in my opinion!) wouldn't be much better than my current setup.

Look forward to your advice/help/comments.

Cheers.

Hi,

Your not going to get 1080i without going from a HDMI or Component output. Even through the converter box, it still is starting with a scart max resolution of 576i. The picture will be better than your current set up no doubt, but it wont be what you want.
Sivideo should give you a better picture than your current, as your not going through the additional DVD recorder.

A HDMI to component converter box is the only thing you can get to get the full resolution for the HD-PVR. Although these are expensive!

Many thanks for the reply - I will consider my options, including swapping out the new STB for one with component output... typical, just as I was getting everything sorted on the media centre front!
