Up to this point we've been connecting to our Hauppauge MediaMVP with a router between the MVP and the PC, but we would rather retire that router and just use a crossover cable to connect the two. So, since we didn't have anything but regular CAT5 laying around the house, we went out and bought some "CAT 5e Crossover Patch Cable: For PC to PC Connections".
We took out the router and the ethernet cables and plugged the crossover cable into the PC and the MVP and followed the instructions in the manual. This didn't seem to be working right off the bat, so we checked out the instructions on the Hauppauge website to set a static IP address for the connection. We also disabled the firewall for this connection, powercycled (rebooted) the PC and the MVP, and switched back to the router connection just to make sure things were still working there as before.
We're still stuck with "Scanning...Please Wait" on the TV screen when we use the crossover cable. Once we thought we saw a message saying the MVP failed to receive an IP address (which would be normal since it's a peer-to-peer connection, right?). The PC detects the ethernet connection, and the MVP seems to be able to tell the connection is there, it just doesn't "see" the PC server anymore.
Any ideas of what else we could try?
